LONG BEACH, CA Mexico’s largest digital records management conversion project, the creation of a searchable electronic archive of 90 million pages of official records on non-citizens residing there, is underway with LaserFiche Document Imaging at the heart of the solution.

«The project upgrades Mexico’s ability to document foreigners living in Mexico,» reports Sergio Galvez of Arguz Servicios, S.C., the LaserFiche reseller implementing the effort for Mexico’s Instituto Nacional de Migración (INM). «It was undertaken in cooperation with the U.S. government as part of Mexico’s tightened security after the 9/11 tragedy.

Since Arguz Servicios started late last year, the firm has prepped and scanned more than 10 million documents. It will complete the scanning portion of the project by early 2005. Arguz Servicios has 200 employees and banks of high-speed scanners on the project.

This application is ideal for LaserFiche in that it allows access to a secure central database from numerous remote locations, said Gonzalo Bonifaz, LaserFiche director of international sales. In addition, Arguz Servicios is helping the INM use LaserFiches proven search capabilities to pull needed specific data from millions of documents.

The solution is available now on a limited basis, but will soon be deployed across the INM enterprise. Eventually, INM agents at every Mexican airport, port and border crossing point will be able to update files and retrieve information instantly, utilizing LaserFiche WebLink and Web Access.

With the SIOM (Sistema Integral de Operación Migratoria) project, the INM is aligning with the Mexican governments framework being built under the Federal Law of Transparency and Access to Public Information for which LaserFiche is already helping various government organizations to comply, added Elena Bosio, International Marketing Manager for LaserFiche.

«We expect to win major projects such as this with LaserFiche, Galvez added. The product is ideal for this market. We have excellent references, including PEMEX (Mexico’s giant, state-owned petroleum company). In addition, LaserFiche is recognized as the leading document imaging product here, thanks to strong prior marketing support.»

Based in Mexico City, Arguz Servicios, S.C. last month became the first LaserFiche reseller from Latin America to qualify for the LaserFiche Winners Circle, earning a place on the roster with strong 2003 sales.

LaserFiche (www.laserfiche.com), a premier digital records management company, provides high-volume document storage and retrieval systems to more than 21,000 government and business customers. Founded in 1987, the Long Beach, California-based company has doubled in size in the past two years, winning two consecutive Los Angeles Fast 50 awards from Deloitte & Touche and two straight Five Star designations from VAR Business magazine.
