PLEASANTON, Calif., June 16 — Documentum (Nasdaq: DCTM ) today announced that Lufthansa Technik AG, the world’s largest provider of technical support services for aircraft, has deployed the Documentum ECM platform. The company uses Documentum on two projects. One initiative is to create, manage, deliver and archive technical maintenance content, and the other is deploying Documentum as the foundation for an employee portal with BEA. Lufthansa Technik’s employees and partners can now quickly and efficiently access critical content, helping the company reduce operating costs and increase productivity.
«Lufthansa Technik chose Documentum because it meets our unique technical and strategic requirements,» said Frank Luka, IT Project Manager at Lufthansa Technik. «Documentum is an established product and well-suited for use in our IT infrastructure, which also includes SAP R/3 and BEA. With Documentum, we are achieving new operational efficiencies by enabling non-technical employees to publish content to the portals, which ensures that fresh, accurate content is always available.»
Lufthansa Technik works with more than 1,000 manufacturers that deliver products and components for the company’s aircraft, from electronic navigation computers to tires — each component with its own maintenance manual. Using the Documentum ECM platform as the central repository to manage and deliver this content, Lufthansa has built powerful workflows that allow system engineers to contribute, edit and approve the content. Employees at Lufthansa Technik’s engine and equipment workshops in Hamburg and Frankfurt, Germany, have access to content through a variety of devices, including terminals and PDAs.
«We are pleased that Lufthansa Technik has chosen Documentum for its enterprise content infrastructure,» said Dave DeWalt, president and CEO of Documentum. «Technology trends in the airline industry, such as paperless documentation, are indicative of global business trends. As the leading provider of enterprise content management, Documentum is well-positioned to provide the products and services for large enterprises, such as Lufthansa, now and as their needs evolve. Documentum looks forward to a lasting relationship with Lufthansa.»
