La Universidad de Salamanca está utilizando Net.Portal 5 para Java de Mediapps para poner en marcha una serie de serivios y secciones tanto en la intranet como en la web de la Universidad de Salamanca.

Computer Services D.P.C. (Data Processing Centre) at the University of Salamanca is a means of support to teaching, research and management. The platform set up in the aforementioned department was Net.Portal 5 for Java, connected to an Open Ldap, in a Linux environment, connected to an Oracle Database repository.

The project is divided into two parts, a general part and an authenticated part. The general area provides the following information: organisation chart and e-mail addresses, service catalogue, available software, web page with safety recommendations, FAQ, suggestions, complaints and protests and regulations. There is also an urgent news and notices area, access to a number of applications such as Infoprensa, news via the website, directory, etc.. Users will also find information concerning the weather in Salamanca, Avila, Bejar and Zamora, the event of the day and surveys.

In the authenticated portal area, users will have an obligatory common area with DPC network services (help, web mail, web news, password management, directories, usal search engine, etc..). This area will also include inquiries to the library catalogue, databases on CDROM/Online and services for users according to profile (teaching and research staff, lecturers, pupils) with access to academic records, staff lists, service assignments and class lists.

Users will also find a number of information channels in the portal, such as: Research Agenda, Governing Body, Personal Matters, Exhibitions, Conferences, Sports, etc.. where they can publish information.
