IDC Foresees Opportunities for Growth in Content Management Services

FRAMINGHAM, Mass., May 12 / — Content management services represents an attractive growth segment for the IT services industry, a new report from IDC reveals. Although the content management services market demonstrated moderate growth in 2002, the five-year forecast looks much brighter. Worldwide content management services spending will increase to more than $7.5 billion in 2007, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.8%.

«Growth in the content management services market outpaces the IT services market as a whole,» said Ellen Julian, vice president for Content Management Services and Services Vertical Views research at IDC. «This is because managing content chaos has become more strategic within the customers’ organizational priorities due to new compliance rules and threats of litigation because of the corporate ethics crisis.»

The following key findings are presented in this report:
    * The Americas represent the largest portion of worldwide spending on
content management services, at more than $2.8 billion in 2002, followed
     by EMEA.
    * A huge installation, customization, and training opportunity will occur
during the forecast period as a new content infrastructure emerges.
    * Content management services providers will need to emphasize that they
offer high-caliber, skilled resources to assist the business process
change associated with adopting the new content infrastructure.
    * The greatest challenges facing providers include competition with other
enterprise IT needs, the need to articulate quantifiable cost savings,
and pricing pressures for packaged content management solution services.

The IDC study, Worldwide and U.S. Content Management Services Forecast and Analysis, 2003-2007: Bringing Order to Content Chaos (IDC #28980), provides a market analysis of the worldwide and U.S. content management services market and presents the five-year forecast. While the worldwide forecast is segmented by region, the U.S. forecast is presented by service activity grouping, including planning/design, implementation, operations, training, and support.
The study also identifies shifts in market trends and discusses the characteristics that services providers will need to be successful in this space.
