SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sept. 4 /– Interwoven, Inc. today announced that Florida’s Miami-Dade County has launched a new portal powered by Interwoven and IBM WebSphere, providing residents fast, easy access to a wealth of critical information and services from more than 40 county agencies. With Interwoven, County employees are now more efficient than ever before, allowing them to expand their online services offerings and collaborate on critical content before pushing to the citizen portal. Encompassing 2,000 square miles and having a population of well over two million, Miami-Dade County is a major center for tourism and trade.
«Interwoven immediately improved the look and feel of our portal, as well as the consistency of our content,» said Darlene Fox, project manager for Miami-Dade County. «We expect all 40 departments to be able to contribute content in the future. All in all, Interwoven has not only simplified what was once a tedious, disjointed contribution process, but it has also provided site visitors with a dynamic, personalized online experience.»
The now-centralized portal contains links that enable county residents to conveniently complete a variety of actions, including the payment of parking tickets, viewing their water bills, looking up property taxes, and more. County employees use Interwoven’s content management platform to regularly update their agencies’ portion of the portal. Because of Interwoven’s easy-to-use templating capability, even non-technical users can create and publish content, while still ensuring that the portal’s look and feel remains consistent across departments and agencies.
Originally launched as a pilot in 2001, the Miami-Dade portal, miamidade.gov, delivered valuable information and services to the County’s constituents. It attracted more than six million visitors during its first year of operation and had already clearly exceeded its initial goal of getting the County citizens «connected.» After evaluating a number of systems, Miami-Dade selected Interwoven’s open content management platform to seamlessly integrate with the County’s existing IBM WebSphere software platform. This helped the County’s understaffed Online Services team, which was tasked with managing an escalating volume of content submitted by Miami-Dade’s 40 different departments and agencies. Now, through WebSphere-Interwoven integration, Miami-Dade is reducing the deployment cycle and integrating Web content from multiple agencies.
Business Users More Efficient Than Ever with Interwoven
«Now that we’ve adopted the Interwoven content management platform, our employees are able to make portal updates in hours instead of what used to take days,» said Fox. «Our business users only have to think about the content, our technology group can focus on online service development, and our new hires need almost zero training due to Interwoven’s easy to use templating.»
Having successfully launched its portal, Miami-Dade is now looking to expand this model to all of the municipalities in the region, thus eventually giving any South Florida resident easy access to important services.
«Maximizing efficiencies and doing more with limited resources is a goal of many government organizations today,» said Kevin Hayden, vice president of corporate marketing at Interwoven. «Interwoven is proud to add Miami-Dade to its growing list of local government customers who are using our content management technology to realize faster time to portal with content that ultimately will better serve the needs of their constituents.»
