NOTA DE PRENSA DE BOWE BELL USA

LINCOLNWOOD, Ill., August X, 2003 A new line of color production scanners with enhanced features designed especially for the demanding imaging and paper-handling requirements of the healthcare industry is now available from Böwe Bell & Howell Scanners.

The new high-performance, Copiscan 8000 Spectrum Series, captures up to 125 pages per minute (PPM) in color, bitonal and grayscale modes.  Its speed and superior paper transport system improves paper handling and automates manual processes, thereby reducing turnaround time on payments and lab test results, and helping healthcare organizations meet HIPAA regulatory compliance guidelines.

Advanced Technology Streamlines Operations

Spectrum’s state-of-the-art camera technology features 30 million pixel per-second throughput and 400 dpi optical resolution to vividly capture patient records, HCFA and UB-92 forms, lab results, photographs, charts, graphs and all types of correspondence.  Spectrum is also built to scan up to 60,000 documents per day reliably and without any trouble making it well-suited for healthcare organizations working around-the-clock.

Spectrum is the first line of production scanners to integrate Kofaxs VirtualReScan (VRS) 3.0 image enhancement technology.  With VRS features of color dropout, auto-cropping, deskew and auto-brightness, both optical character recognition (OCR) and intelligent character recognition (ICR) rates are significantly improved with Spectrum. That means fewer exceptions, minimal rescans and a much faster overall throughput.

With a variety of new technological advances, the Spectrum Series gives healthcare organizations the ability to scan a variety of documents, from thick cardstock to thin lab results to receipts everything related to a medical claim or patient record without having to sort the documents beforehand or adjust the scanner manually to handle the paper.  A new feature called ultrasonic multifeed ignore by size allows users to easily program the scanner to ignore labels, envelopes or sticky notes, but will still catch actual document double-feeds.

Spectrum scanners come bundled with ISIS® (developed and certified by Pixel Translations), ImageControls? and TWAIN drivers, and support any application using them.  Spectrum scanners also come bundled with a Kofax Adrenaline 650i PC interface board and a SCSI-3 cable.

Lower Cost of Ownership

Spectrums features, combined with its 60,000 document-per-day duty cycle, will help any healthcare organization satisfy HIPAA requirements in the most cost-effective way without sacrificing performance, quality or reliability, and will dramatically increase the overall productivity of document imaging systems in healthcare, said Böwe Bell & Howell Product Manager Sean Parnell.

Based on purchase price and ongoing costs published by manufacturers of other production scanners, Spectrum offers healthcare organizations a much lower cost of ownership. Each Spectrum model comes with a one-year, onsite warranty in the United States, which alone saves users thousands of dollars.  In addition, Spectrum post-warranty coverage, offered by Böwe Bell & Howell Authorized Service Providers (ASPs) is quite affordable, allowing some users to save up to $15,000 per scanner, per year with Spectrum over other production scanners.

Spectrum consumables, including rollers and lamps, last more than twice as long as those of any other competitor, and are far easier to clean and less costly to replace.

Said Parnell, The accuracy and speed of Spectrum scanners ultimately helps doctors provide better quality of care to patients while also cutting down the time it takes to receive payments all at a cost-effective price. Theres no better way to maximize your return on investment when purchasing a production scanner in the healthcare industry.

Spectrum scanners are available in six basic models and can be purchased from a Böwe Bell & Howell Value-Added Reseller; the list price ranges from $18,995 to $44,995.  Duplex scanning is available on all models and simplex scanning is available on 8080 models.  Front-page, pre-scan imprinting; patchcode and barcode recognition; back-page, post-scan imprinting; continuous feeder trays; extended exit trays; and dust covers are also available.
