Sun Microsystems, ICSynergy and FatWire Team to ‘Suit’ The Men’s Wearhouse
Leading Men’s Retail Chain Connects 500 Stores Using Sun’s Java Enterprise System to Streamline Operations and Provide Superior Prices and Customer Service
NEW YORK – NATIONAL RETAIL FEDERATION CONFERENCE, Jan. 13 Sun Microsystems, the creator of Java technology, ICSynergy and FatWire Software today jointly announced that The Men’s Wearhouse, a leading retailer of men’s clothing, chose these companies to increase business efficiencies. The companies will be integrating and sharing information such as employees benefits and secure financial reporting, while leveraging The Men’s Wearhouse’s investment in PeopleSoft applications across 500 stores nationwide. The Men’s Wearhouse solution will aggregate and personalize business-critical operational data so store operations, store managers and employees across the U.S. can collaborate better and simplify their daily tasks to help deliver the best value and service to its customers.
«We needed a flexible, reliable and scalable portal to serve as the single point of access for realtime collaboration and communications for our distributed employee base across hundreds of U.S. stores,» said David Bergh, IT director for The Men’s Wearhouse. «The ICSynergy, Sun and FatWire solution helped us to upgrade our intranet to a portal that could accommodate new PeopleSoft HR self-service functions. Our vision is to foster closer ties with our employees by creating a ‘Men’s Wearhouse community’ while lowering operating costs and increasing efficiencies.»
Before this new solution, The Men’s Wearhouse had an intranet which contained static links with no real way of integrating and sharing information across different stores. Reports generated were either sent manually via expensive overnight delivery or e-mailed with little security. Now, The Men’s Wearhouse has a much faster and better way to securely deliver the right information to the right user based on delegated administration.
The Men’s Wearhouse chose ICSynergy based on its portal, content management and retail expertise. After an in-depth project assessment, the Sun Java Enterprise System was selected to meet the Men’s Wearhouse short- and long-term objectives. Key Java Enterprise System components include the Java System Portal Server, Java System Directory Server, Java System Identity Server and Java System Web Server.
«We worked closely with The Men’s Wearhouse’s IT and store operations organizations to help design and implement an employee-focused enterprise portal and identity solution,» said Mike Thompson, managing partner of ICSynergy. «The solution provides an open standards-based platform and technology foundation that embraces The Men’s Wearhouse’s existing HR, financial (Universe and Hyperion) and back office systems. Ultimately, the retail solution will position The Men’s Wearhouse for secure financial reporting, user provisioning, employee self-service, collaboration and online training for more than 500 U.S. stores.»
FatWire Spark content management, fully integrated with the Sun Java System Portal, provides The Men’s Wearhouse non-technical business managers the ability to create, edit, review, and publish information independent of the Web team streamlining the publishing process.
«Forward-looking retail companies like The Men’s Wearhouse know that creating a portal for easy access to, and delivery of, critical information is key to enhancing employee performance and efficiency,» said James Rothstein, senior vice president of strategic alliances, FatWire Software. «Outstanding content management capability is pivotal to the success of the new portal and we’re pleased that that our technology is part of the total solution being provided by our partners ICSynergy and Sun Microsystems.»
«With the Java Enterprise System, customers such as The Men’s Wearhouse are able to implement identity-enabled portals,» said Bob DeLaney, director of industry solutions, Sun Microsystems. «Today, The Men’s Wearhouse employees have single sign-on access to personalized key portal services such as search, personalization, content aggregation and security. The patented technology of the Java System Portal Server, Secure Remote Access, enables users at store branches across the U.S. to access their portal securely with any standard Web browser.»
The software and systems solution includes key components of the Java Enterprise System, and FatWire Content Management running on the Solaris(TM) 9 operating system on Sun volume systems, including Sun Fire V480 servers. Sun, ICSynergy and FatWire will be showcasing a demo of The Men’s Wearhouse implementation at Sun Microsystems’ Booth #1935.
Sun Microsystems has a major presence at NRF (National Retail Federation) Trade Show in New York from January 11-14 with dozens of software vendor demonstrating the latest technology breakthroughs on Sun systems to meet retailer’s needs for retail in real-time, including showcasing its continued leadership around RFID technology.
